The Opera Réale project represents a bold and fundamentally new approach to the performance of opera, aiming to broaden its appeal and expand its reality.
Opera has barely changed since the invention of electricity. Opera Réale will change that.
And about time too!! – Welcome to the 21st Century.
Opera Réale is a small charitable arts organisation with a big idea.
A simple and unique mission to present full-size, live opera in a purpose-built, transportable, 360 degree projection space, where the seats and backdrops of traditional opera are replaced with a gigantic projection screen that covers the entire roof.
Images played onto the roof will surround the audience from all sides and provide a unique immersive experience unlike any other. This is a world first. It is genuinely the only time that fulldome projection has been used to combine live performance and music of any sort – let alone proper traditional opera.
The auditorium will house a 20 metre oval stage, raised over a full sized orchestra pit and sit inside a purpose-built, 40 metre, geodesic event dome with seating for 800 people. The dome will contain a multi layered projection system capable of displaying 6k quality images through a series of laser driven projectors, and will create an acoustic environment of concert hall standards.
This will literally be a place of light and music, so will be called ‘The Luminarium.’
